EduKAY has arrived! The educational system seems to be in a constant state of change. The curriculum is shifting, the teaching is rigorous, and the kids are wound up tight. Teachers are in their chosen career because they love kids and believe in education, but let’s face it, they generally aren’t supported as much as they need, appreciated, or valued in the ways they should be. Consciously teaching Yoga, Meditation and Mindfulness will improve any classroom climate, which in turn increases productive academic time. Research, testimonials, and even the Supreme Court agree that yoga has a place in schools, and this is how we can start.
Kidding Around Yoga has methods that address Curriculum Standards, character education topics as seen in most guidance curriculums, and may count toward mandated structured physical activity requirements. It provides enough flexibility (ha ha!) to create yoga mini-lessons that can be used during class meetings, for character education lessons, for bringing Reader's Theater activities to life, or to make Math and Science concepts more relatable and concrete. It teaches meditation, focus and concentration, which serves as a foundation for all other academics to rest upon.
This program is for all teachers…or anyone who wants to introduce yoga into the classroom. This training is adapted from the wildly popular Kidding Around Yoga style of yoga and fits seamlessly into all parts of the school day. However, you do not need to be a certified KAY instructor to benefit from these techniques!
In this 6-hour online, self-paced professional development workshop, EduKAY participants will learn:
- Yoga poses, games, activities, meditation and mindfulness exercises, songs and stories.
- How to teach children to practice the tools that they learn outside of the classroom, or how to "Live Your Yoga".
- How to select materials from Reading, Math, or other content areas that are yoga-adaptable.
- The science of yoga and how to present it to children.
- How to choose your Yoga Break activities based on various factors and considerations.
- The music! We have included our very best original Kidding Around Yoga songs geared toward the classroom setting.
There are separate modules that cover all of our topics from games and music, to breathing and meditation techniques. You will find a pdf at the end of each module that you can print out and piece together to create your own tangible "manual". You can track your progress as you move through the lectures and you will be able to return to any lecture at any time. There will be a combination of text, photos and videos of our EduKAY-tors explaining the activities and ideas presented in this workshop. At the end of the course, you will be provided a downloadable certificate (offering 6 CEUs) and will be fully prepared to share the benefits of EduKAY with your students
